This GPA Calculator was adapted from the GPA Calculator created by Tom O'Brien of the UC Berkeley Academic Achievement Division.

Definitions:
Current GPA -- Includes grades from a specific term.
Cumulative GPA --Includes grades earned in a specific career.
Careers: Undergraduate, Graduate, Law and Pharmacy.

  • The GPA is equal to the number of Quality Points (QP) divided by the number of Quality Hours (QH).
  • Quality Hours (QH) = total number of hours for courses student received a grade of A, B, C, D or F.
  • Quality Points (QP) = number of credit hours per course multiplied by the value of the grade received. Example values: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0
  • Courses with grades of P, F, I, S, W or AU do not figure in GPA calculations.

Sample Grade Point Average Calculation:
Course QH Grade X Grade-point
Equivalent
  Total QP
PSY 100 4 x 2.0 = 8.0
CHE 105 3 F x 0.0 = 0.0
ENG 101 3 x 3.0 = 9.0
PHY 211 5 x 3.0 = 15.0
Total: 15   32.0
32.0 QP ÷ 15 QH = 2.13 GRADE POINT AVERAGE
