If you plan to graduate under a bulletin dated 2004/2005 or later, any one
of the following courses will satisfy the general education core:
Math 1010 (Mathematical Thought and Practice)
Math 1530 (Elements of Statistics)
Math 1420 (Structure of Mathematical Systems)
Math 1730 (Precalculus)
Math 1810 (Elements of Calculus)
Math 1910 (Calculus and Analytic Geometry)
Please note that you must meet the
prerequisites for any mathematics course for which you enroll. Math
1010 (Mathematical Thought and Practice) and Math 1530 (Elements of
Statistics) require only high school Algebra I, geometry, and Algebra II
as prerequisites.
Of course you will need to take additional mathematics courses if your
particular major
requires them.
If you plan to graduate under a pre-2004/2005 bulletin, you must
satisfy the mathematics core indicated in the bulletin for that earlier
year. In particular, you cannot satisfy the old mathematics core
with three hours of the new core.

Students transferring to the new bulletin with the new general
education core will have three options:
- If they have completed the old math core, it will be
accepted for the new bulletin.
- If they have taken a portion of the old math core but not completed
it, they may either complete the old core or meet the math option of the
new core.
- If they have not taken any of the old math core, they will need to
complete the new core.

Your teacher will not assume knowledge of mathematics other than
Arithmetic, Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. He or she will
assume, however, that you have an open mind and a good attitude about
learning new things. It is the desire of the Mathematics Department
that you have a positive and successful experience in Math 1010.

With the 2004-2005 Catalog, college algebra will no longer be a
prerequisite for Math 1530. The prerequisite for Math 1530 is high
school Algebra I, geometry, and Algebra II.

The prerequisite for Math 1730 (precalculus) is a working knowledge
of high school Algebra I, geometry, and Algebra II. The prerequisite
for Math 1810 (Elements of Calculus) is the same. If a student will
need Math 1730 or Math 1810, but is not quite ready for one of these
courses, then college algebra is an appropriate choice. The "AdvisorInformation.pdf"
file (available at left) lists ACT score guidelines to assist advisors
with placement.

You should take Math 1730, precalculus. Trigonometry is part of
the content of this course.

Under the 2004-2005 catalog, college algebra will not satisfy the core.
If you plan to graduate under a catalog dated 2004-5 or later, any one
of the following courses will satisfy the general education core:
Math 1010 (Mathematical Thought and Practice)
Math 1530 (Elements of Statistics)
Math 1420 (Structure of Mathematical Systems)
Math 1730 (Precalculus)
Math 1810 (Elements of Calculus)
Math 1910 (Calculus and Analytic Geometry)
Please note that you must meet the
prerequisites for any mathematics course for which you enroll. Math
1010 (Mathematical Thought and Practice) and Math 1530 (Elements of
Statistics) require only high school Algebra I, geometry, and Algebra II
as prerequisites.
Of course you will need to take additional mathematics courses if your
particular major
requires them.

If you satisfy the mathematics core at one TBR institution and then
transfer to another TBR institution, you will NOT have to take any
additional mathematics to fulfill the general education core. It
doesn't matter that the courses listed for the two schools are different.

That depends on what your major will be. You should consult an
advisor in your major. Completion of DSP math fulfills the
prerequisites for Math 1710 (College Algebra), Math 1530 (Elements of
Statistics), Math 1010 (Mathematical Thought and Pracitce), and Math 1410
(Structure of Mathematical Systems). Please note that Math 1710 and
Math 1410 do not satisfy the general education core in mathematics.
Math 1530 and Math 1010 do satisfy the general education core in
mathematics.
