Psychology Club

The Psychology Club is an informal club whose members include anyone interested in psychology. Our primary goal is education outside the classroom. We hope to provide an environment where everyone can come together and learn about psychology. There are a variety of ways Psychology Club hopes to accomplish this goal. We hold discussions among members and faculty, either through debates or lectures in order to learn about aspects of psychology in a more in-depth manner.

We also hold lectures or discussions with people currently in the field to talk about their areas of interest and their experiences. We would also like to see research ideas concerning areas psychology generated and discussed between members.

We will also hold fund-raising events in the form of bake sales, soup/chili sales, and in other ways. Psychology Club is also interested in participating with some campus activities; however, it is not mandatory that all members participate. If you are interested in Psychology Club, please contact the Faculty Advisor Dr. Brian Hock or pick up an application in the Psychology Office or print one out here.

Helping with faculty research

Several faculty members are conducting research at all times. If you are interested in working with a specific faculty member, ask them if they have any current research projects that you could help with. You can do this at any time during the semester. Research projects may go through various phases at different times, so there's virtually always one just getting started. Professors very rarely announce these projects in their classes, so take the initiative and ask.

Currently the following research is being conducted:

  • Female research participants from staff and/or students are needed between the ages of 29-41 with a child between the ages of 9-11; ages 32-44 with a child between the ages of 12-14 years; and those who are 35-47 with a child between the ages of 15-17 years. Participants will complete a parenting behavior assessment related to their interactions with children and personal questions regarding family issues, such as income and family living situation.

    • For more information, contact Dr. Paul Nicodemus at (931) 221 - 1244 or email.

  • Personality and the “Internal Clock.”  Participants are being sought for a study of the relationship between personality factors and the ability to estimate time intervals.  Each participant will complete a personality inventory and will be asked to estimate certain time intervals that elapse.  The study is being made available initially to students enrolled in General Psychology courses; you may receive course credit in exchange for participation (at the discretion of individual instructors).

    • The project is being conducted by Dr. Brad Mossbarger.  If you would like to participate, please contact Kim Grube at kkgrube@msn.com or 221-7235; you also may stop by the Psychology Department office (CL 205) and ask for the “Time Estimation Study” sign-up sheet.

  • Volunteers needed to participate in research investigating premenstrual symptoms and academic performance.  Requirements for participation:  Female Students, 18 years of age or older experiencing normal 28-day menstrual cycles, do not use oral contraceptives, abuse drugs or alcohol, use psychoactive or sedating mediation, are not pregnant.  If interested contact Deby Thomas at dthomas16@apmail.apsu.edu or (931) 561 - 0678.
