I-O Psychology at APSU
I received my PhD in Experimental Psychology with a concentration in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from The University of Memphis. As an Assistant Professor of Psyc Science and core faculty member of the I-O Master's program at APSU, I enjoy teaching undergraduate and Master's students "on ground" and online. In addition to teaching, I have served on various campus, community, and local business projects through my work with APSU and the Center for Research on Women at The University of Memphis. I have worked on various applied projects related to highway safety, healthcare, and the U.S. Navy. My research interests include work-life interaction, stress, corporate social responsibility, quality of (work) life, teaching in the psychological discipline, and graduate program administration. I also strive to promote the dissemination of timely empirical research to empower individuals to make informed decisions about their health, safety, well-being, and work life.
Teaching
I currently teach:
- Introduction to Psychology (PSY 1010)
- Psychology Applied to Work (PSY 4500, an intro to Industrial-Organizational Psychology)
- Personnel Psychology (PSY 5580)
- Personnel Assessment & Selection (PSY 5520)
- Performance Management (PSY 5510)
- Occupational Health Psychology (PSY 6030)
I'm also available to mentor undergraduate and graduate independent research and internships on a case by case basis.
Research
Most recently, my research lab focused on work-life interaction in academia. More specifically, we created an online survey instrument to investigate university faculty and staff experiences and attitudes regarding parental leave. Every student in the lab worked on literature review, item development, and creating the online survey, including branching and logic, in Qualtrics. The Work-Life Interaction Lab presented their work on the "PLEA" survey (Parental Leave Experiences and Attitudes) in multiple poster presentations at the annual River Cities Industrial-Organizational Psychology Conference (RCIO) in Chattanooga, TN. The PLEA was later adopted by another university, in consultation with the WLI Lab, to assess their own parental leave climate. Additional research interests emerging in the lab include investigating various antecedents and outcomes (e.g., training, coping, conflict, stress, burnout) associated with the interaction between our work and non-work domains from the unique perspective of higher education students and faculty of all levels.
My lab is comprised of smart, driven, conscientious students who are eager and committed to making the most of their research experience. Interested in joining us? Undergrad and grad students are welcome to join the research team, but positions are limited! If you are interested, please email me directly to learn more. Accepting new students Fall 2019.
