The Department of Psychology at Austin Peay State University has the following open positions:

  • Assistant Professor - Psychology (Mental Health Counseling)
  • Assistant Professor - Psychology (School Counseling)

 

Assistant Professor - Psychology (Mental Health Counseling)

Position Summary: The department of psychology at Austin Peay State University seeks to fill a tenure-track faculty position in the area of MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING beginning August, 2015.

 Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach graduate counseling courses.
  • Supervise counseling graduate student interns with the opportunity to teach undergraduate courses in psychology.
  • University/community service and scholarly and creative activity are also expected.

 Required Qualifications:

  • A Doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program is required. ABD from same will be considered if all requirements for degree are completed prior to the date of hire.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in the mental health field.
  • Licensed or license-eligible as licensed professional counselor in Tennessee.
  • Background or expertise in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable: Psychological assessment, Substance abuse and addictions theories and counseling, supervision, program evaluation.
  • A background search will be required of the successful candidate.

 


Assistant Professor - Psychology (School Counseling)

Position Summary: The department of psychology at Austin Peay State University seeks to fill a tenure-track faculty positions in the area of SCHOOL COUNSELING beginning August, 2015.

 Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach graduate counseling courses.
  • Supervise counseling graduate student interns with the opportunity to teach undergraduate courses in psychology.
  • University/community service and scholarly and creative activity are also expected.

 Required Qualifications:

  • A doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program is required. ABD from same will be considered if all requirements for degree are completed prior to date of hire.
  • A minimum of two years of experience working in a K-12 school setting.
  • Licensed or license-eligible as a school counselor in Tennessee.
  • A strong knowledge of the ASCA National Model and comprehensive developmental school counseling programs.
  • Ability to teach school counseling courses such as, Foundations in School Counseling, Counseling Children & Adolescents, Comprehensive School Counseling Program Development.
  • A background search will be required of the successful candidate.

 
The Counseling Program has a counseling lab with suites and state-of-the-art digital recording and monitoring equipment. In addition, the university has funding opportunities to help support research and teaching equipment expenses.
