Faculty Position Openings

The Department of Psychological Science and Counseling at Austin Peay State University has the following open position:

Tenure-track, Assistant Professor in Counselor Education  

The Department of Psychological Science and Counseling at Austin Peay State University seeks to fill a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Counselor Education beginning August, 2016. A doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program is required (ABD with all requirements for degree completed prior to the time of hire will also be considered).

Responsibilities include teaching graduate counseling core courses and supervising counseling graduate student interns, with the opportunity to teach undergraduate courses in psychology. Experience with online and other technology-assisted instruction and familiarity with CACREP accreditation standards are desirable. University and community service, and scholarly and creative activity are also expected.

In addition to the above stated requirements, the ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • A minimum of two years of experience working in a K-12 school setting or professional counseling experience working with children and adolescents. 
  • Licensed or license-eligible as a school counselor or professional counselor in Tennessee.
  • Background or expertise in one or more of the following areas: psychological assessment, psychopathology, research methods, couples & family counseling, the ASCA National Model, and/or child and adolescent development and counseling.

Preference will be given to candidates who have the ability to teach courses in Psychological Assessment, Psychopathology and Research Methods. The ability to teach courses such as Counseling Children & Adolescents, Life Span Development, Foundations in School Counseling, and Comprehensive School Counseling Program Development is also desirable, but not required.

The Counseling Program has a counseling lab with suites and state-of-the-art digital recording and monitoring equipment.
