Why study Musical Theatre

Our career-focused training program provides performance and design opportunities at every level. Students experience a variety of styles from classical drama too contemporary works, Gershwin to Jason Robert Brown, and from classical ballet to musical comedy and hip hop dance. Students receive additional training for in-demand fields such as radio drama, voiceover, acting for the camera, motion capture, and dance pedagogy.

Studying Theatre and/or Dance at APSU guarantees individualized attention, connections to professional work opportunities, department supported travel to conferences, and a guest artist series that brings 20-25 guest artists each year.

Our B.A. program is a good fit for students who are interested in learning about the field of Theatre and/or Dance, while pursuing a second complimentary major or minor. The B.A. Theatre/Dance major is open to all students.

Our B.F.A. Theatre/Dance program is a good fit for students who are interested in intensive, pre-professional training in the fields of Acting, Theatre Design, Musical Theatre, and/or Dance. The B.F.A. Theatre/Dance program is selective and requires a successful program entrance audition and portfolio review.

Faculty in the Department of Theatre and Dance are working professionals in the field who are dedicated to preparing students to begin their careers in the entertainment industry upon graduation.
