Mission Statement |
The College of Professional
Programs and Social Sciences is often
described as being diverse and with
programs ranging from Nursing to
Military Science this appears to be
true. But there is one common theme
core to all studies in the college.
That common theme is people. Whether
becoming a nurse, teacher, social
worker, health management
professional, counselor or military
officer or studying people’s
individual, social, or political lives
you learn about people. The College is
indeed diverse, as diverse as the
people we study and the reasons we
study them.
The
College is composed of three
schools, Business, Education and Nursing, and
six departments including Health and
Human Performance, Military Science,
Political Science, Psychology, Social
Work and Sociology. There are numerous
majors and licensing programs within
the college and many of these programs
are state and nationally accredited.
Because of the complexities of these
licensing programs and majors it is
important you stay in close contact
with your department of major and your
advisors to insure you are taking the
correct courses and meeting all
testing requirements. General
information can be found in these
pages and in the catalog but for more
specific information please contact
the proper department or your advisor.
Austin Peay is a liberal arts
university. We believe the study of
the liberal arts enables our students
to participate in modern society, to
be decision makers, citizens and
scholars. We believe the liberal arts
opens the minds or our students to new
ideas and in the process provides them
the skills necessary for critical
thought and expression, skills
necessary in every major in every
college. Because of this all majors
and programs in this college have a
strong liberal arts core. |
