The Phi Kappa Phi Chapter at Austin Peay State University is inviting proposals for papers and panels on the theory, practice, applications, and history of liberal higher education to be presented at a conference at Austin Peay State University, Clarksville, Tennessee, on February 28 and March 1, 2003. Partially supported by a Promotion of Excellence Grant from the national organization of Phi Kappa Phi, the conference seeks to encourage thought on defining and pursuing academic excellence, rooted in the liberal arts, among faculty and students in varying disciplines and institutional settings.
The conference will be organized into a series of concurrent sessions of approximately ninety minutes. Each session should consist of two or three formal papers of about twelve pages with a moderator/commentator or a more informal panel discussion with two or three discussants and a moderator/commentator. Faculty and graduate students are invited to submit proposals. Also there will be one or more sessions featuring undergraduate research reports on topics related to the themes of the conference. Proposals for these undergraduate sessions should be made by sponsoring faculty or Phi Kappa Phi Chapters.
