Questions/ Comments

Frequently Asked Questions
Concerning the Admission Policy

  • I have been under the old requirement. Do the new requirements apply to me?
Yes, all students applying for Fall 2008 will be under the new requirements. If you feel you should have an exception to the new requirements please include with your application a letter explaining the exception, the reason for the exception, and the validation for the exception.

  • If I have repeated a course, will only the highest grade be used in computing my GPA?
No. All attempts will be incuded when computing your GPA regardless of where you took the course.

  • If I have applied the Care Policy or the Fresh Start Policy to my grades, will that affect which grades are used in computing my GPA?
Yes. Any grades affected by either Care or Fresh Start will not be used in computing your GPA.

  • What are the dates for the new admissions test and where will it be given?
The TEAS admission test will be administered on the main campus at Austin Peay. There will be 8 testing sessions: 8 - 12 or 1 - 5 on the following dates: March 15, March 27, April 12 and April 24. The test will be given in the computer lab in  McCord 336.

  • I took the TEAS test at another school. Can that score be used at APSU or do I need to take the test again?
We encourage students to take the TEAS test here at the university but exceptions can be made.

  • Can I use a calculator on the test?
    No.

  • I do not live near APSU. Do I have to take the TEAS test (admission test) on campus?
Yes, you do have to the test on campus. If you have extenuating circumstances, please contact Debbie Cochener cochenerd@apsu.edu to see what arrangements can be made.

  • Can I take the test more than one time per admission period?
Students can only take the test one time during each admission cycle. Scores are valid for two consecutive admission cycles. If you have taken the TEAS in two consecutive admission cycles, both scores will be considered for your application.

  • How do I prepare for this test?
You will find both a study guide and practice tests on the ATI testing site. For more information go to www.atitesting.com, click on student and then on TEAS. There will be no formally organized study sessions provided by SON.

  • How much does the test cost?
The test costs $20 which will be paid at the time of testing with either a debit or credit card. No checks or cash accepted.

  • When will I find out the TEAS test score and what is a passing score on the test to get into the program?
As soon as you finish the TEAS it gives you a percentage grade and you can look at how you did in each of the areas. You will also be able to access this info once you get home.  The TEAS is used as a ranking device, just like your gpa.
