Austin Peay State University's chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) has been named among the best in the nation.
Del Square Psi, an organization for APSU students interested in physics or astronomy, was selected as an Outstanding SPS Chapter for the 2004-05 school year. Less than 10 percent of SPS chapters nationwide receive this recognition.
This is the second consecutive year that the club has received this national award. The chapter also was Student Organization of the Year at APSU for 2004-05.
In his congratulatory letter to APSU SPS Chapter Adviser Dr. Spencer Buckner, Gary White, director of the SPS for the American Institute of Physics, stated, “This award is a testament to your personal leadership skills as much as it is an acknowledgment of your chapter's superior performance.”
The chapter was honored for activities conducted in such areas as physics research, public science outreach, physics tutoring programs, hosting and representation at physics meetings and providing social interaction for chapter members.
