Sharon Mabry travels to Florida as guest recitalist, master teacher
Dr. Sharon Mabry, mezzo-soprano and professor of music at Austin Peay State University, was the guest recitalist and master class teacher April 12-14 at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Fla.
Mabry coached university voice majors in a master class in contemporary American art songs and arias on Monday afternoon, followed by a question-and-answer session on contemporary vocal techniques for voice faculty and vocal majors. On Tuesday evening, Mabry and her accompanist, Patsy Wade, presented a recital of 20th and 21st century American art songs in the auditorium of the music complex. This performance was part of the 2009-10 Guest Artist Series sponsored by the university and community—at-large.
Mabry is also scheduled to perform with the Alias Chamber Ensemble, a part of the Nashville Symphony, on the WPLN National Public Radio program, “Live in Studio C,” in early May. She and pianist, Roger Wiesmeyer, will perform songs of Lili Boulanger. They will also present these works as part of the last spring concert in the Alias Chamber Ensemble season at 8 p.m. on May 14 in Turner Recital Hall, Blair School of Music, Vanderbilt University. -- Charles Booth
