Renaissance Center to produce plays by APSU student playwrights
April 8, 2002
Soon four Austin Peay student playwrights will know the thrill of having their plays produced and presented by professional actors and directors.
Selected for presentation at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 20, in the theatre of the Renaissance Center, Dickson, are the following plays: "The Ring" by Jeanne Burdorf of Dickson; "I Promise" by Jennie Passero of Winchester; "Skeleton Keys" by Mica McCoy and "Fly By Night" by Danica Wright, both of Clarksville.
According to Professor Malcolm Glass, who taught the playwriting class at APSU, an opportunity for a young playwright to have his or her work produced is invaluable.
"They deserve to see their work performed," Glass said. "All four are talented playwrights, and their scripts are excellent. They are, without question, the best plays I've seen from Austin Peay students in my 10 years of teaching playwriting."
Calling this event "a wonderful collaboration between APSU and The Renaissance Center," Glass said the each play will be followed by a discussion/workshop session.
" 'Workshopping' the script is the best means for a writer to see ways to revise and improve it. And what a splendid chance for these playwrights to shine in the spotlight!'
