Political science scholarship established
October 2, 2000
Dr. Vernon Warren, Austin Peay State University professor of political science, and Nell Northington-Warren, former director of APSU's Office of Extended Education and now interim administrator of the Austin Peay Center @ Fort Campbell, have established the Northington-Warren Political Science Scholarship.
"We did it in honor of our parents, who made higher education possible for both of us," Northington-Warren says. The endowment will be used to award a $1,000 scholarship annually to a junior majoring in political science. Stressing the importance of APSU to her family, Northington-Warren said her father graduated from AP Normal in 1937, while she earned two degrees at APSU, as did her brother and sister. The Warrens now have two nieces enrolled as undergraduates.
Northington-Warren worked at APSU for nearly 20 years before resigning to attend graduate school, and Warren has taught at APSU for 33 years.
"Needless to say, APSU has had quite an effect on our lives. We wanted to give something back and thought the scholarship to help political science majors would be appropriate," said Northington-Warren.
