Pell grant cap raised
January 8, 2001
Low-income students can get extra help from the federal government to pay for college, thanks to a recently approved increase in the cap on Pell grants. After intense negotiations, Congress voted earlier this month to raise the maximum grant from $3,300 a year to $3,750. More than 3.8 million students nationwide received Pell grants in the 1999-2000 school year. Some 2,295 students at Austin Peay received Pell grants in that period, with aid totaling more than $4.2 million.
