CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – On Nov. 1, Edward’s Steakhouse in downtown Clarksville will host Dr. Jeffrey Williams, Austin Peay State University assistant professor of voice, for “Leonard Bernstein: A Cabaret Celebration” from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Williams, baritone, and his APSU voice students will showcase their talents in honor of the 100th birthday of the late American composer and conductor. They will perform many of Bernstein’s most beloved tunes, from “West Side Story,” “On the Town,” “Wonderful Town,” “MASS,” “Candide” and more.

The late American composer Leonard Bernstein was born in 1918.

“I’m so excited to get out into our downtown Clarksville community and do this performance with our students,” Williams said. “Doing a cabaret is a different animal. There is extensive interaction with the audience and it forces you to get out of the standard classical singer ‘comfort zone’ – the crook of the piano. It is a great setting for authentic storytelling as well as singing with amplification.”

Tickets for the event are $50 per person, and admission includes a full meal and the cabaret performance. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the APSU Vocal Alumni Scholarship, which is presented to one deserving vocal student each year.

“Diversifying venues, experiences, and techniques is such an important part of being a working singer,” Williams said. “I’m so glad the students will have a chance to do a performance like this before they graduate. Hopefully it will empower them to generate occasions like this on their own in the future.”

This event can be enjoyed in conjunction with the Downtown Clarksville Association’s First Thursday Art Walk. For more information, visit http://artwalkclarksville.com/wordpress/.
