Acuff Chair Jones to perform Dec. 1 in Mabry Concert Hall

The acclaimed pianist Warren Jones, a distinguished long-time faculty member at Manhattan School of Music and the Music Academy of the West, will present a free public concert to the Clarksville community at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1, in the Austin Peay State University Mabry Concert Hall.

Jones is at Austin Peay this week as the recipient of the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts’ Acuff Chair of Excellence. In 1985, country-music legend Roy Acuff generously endowed the chair at APSU, which brings nationally acclaimed artists to campus each year to work with students and the community. While at Austin Peay, Jones has visited classrooms, conducted lectures and hosted 24 private coaching sessions.

“Warren is an absolute gift to the field of music,” Dr. Jeffrey Williams, APSU assistant professor of voice, said.

Jones received the Music Teachers National Association of America’s 2011 Achievement Award, the organization’s highest honor. In 2010 he was named Collaborative Pianist of the Year by the publication Musical America. He has been an invited guest at the White House to perform for state dinners in honor of the leaders of Canada, Russia and Italy; and three times the invited guest of the Justices of the United States Supreme Court for musical afternoons in the East Conference Room at the Court.
