New policy means transfer students leave GPAs behind
February 18, 2002
In the future, students who transfer to Austin Peay from another university will begin their academic program with a GPA of 0. In the past, APSU accepted the cumulative grade-point average each student brought from colleges attended previously. “Students who attended ‘easier' colleges sometimes brought with them ‘inflated' GPAs, compared to students who began here as freshman,” says Dr. Bruce Speck, vice president for academic affairs. The new policy, which goes into effect Fall 2002, is the norm for most colleges, Speck says.
