Marketing manager hired

Debbie Denton has been appointed marketing manager for APSU. Denton, who has served as temporary marketing manager since May 2000, was hired as a full-time, permanent staff member in the Office of Public Relations, Publications and Marketing following the completion of interviews in October.

As marketing manager, her responsibilities include identifying target markets, formulating marketing strategy and writing copy for print ads, brochures, billboards and direct mail pieces, as well as for radio and television ads. She also writes news and feature articles that support specific marketing campaigns and serves as writer and editor for “InnerAction,” the University's electronic newsletter.

Denton graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in communications from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in May 1990.

Before she began working for APSU, she was a marketing communication consultant and freelance writer and editor. Among recent work, she was the editor and primary writer for “Clarksville Magazine,” and she did freelance work for Thomas Nelson Publishers and Rutledge Hill Press, both of Nashville. She edited manuscripts by Robert Schuller and Casey Treat, both of which became best sellers.

A newsletter she produced for a geriatric psychiatrist received the grand prize in a national competition.
She has previous experience as information and communication specialist for Analysas Corp. of Oak Ridge, newsletter writer and editor for Baptist Health System of Knoxville, copy editor for Whittle Communications, Knoxville, and public relations director for Magic World in Pigeon Forge.

Dennie B. Burke, interim executive director of public relations, publications and marketing, said, “Debbie is a wonderful addition to the University family. She's bright, creative, enthusiastic, a team player and she has had great experience in marketing.”
Denton is the wife of Dr. David Denton, associate professor of psychology at APSU.
