Lady Gov featured in "Slam" magazine
May 6, 2002
With her dad serving as the principal of her Gordonsville high school, and her mom as secretary, Brooke Armistead says she "couldn't get away with much." But there was a bright spot to her parents' proximity: "I was able to get the keys to the gym anytime I wanted."
The extra practice time may have something to do with Armistead's landing a pictorial profile in the May issue of "Slam" magazine.
"Slam" notes that the 5-foot-9-inch guard has "been a star" in the Ohio Valley Conference since she arrived at the Peay, leading the Lady Govs in scoring in each of her three seasons.
She averaged 20.3 points per game as a freshman and 22.1 as a sophomore. In the 2001-2002 season, she's averaging 22.2. "In the process, she led APSU to 19 victories and its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance," notes writer Michael Lewis.
In the article, Lady Govs Coach Susie Gardner praises Armistead's versatility, noting that even though the junior is key to the team's defense, "when she's open for a split second, she scores."
The magazine is available at local bookstores.
