Hoppe takes funding needs "to the Hill"
March 26, 2001
Dr. Sherry Hoppe was one of several area leaders who took their "issues" to Nashville Wednesday for a session with the state legislature.
Among Hoppe's requests were funds for planning and constructing an agricultural exposition center ($8 million) and renovating the McCord Building to house nursing, geology and geography ($6.6 million). She also sought funding for capital maintenance projects, including $1.04 million for roof replacements for five buildings, $200,000 for door and window replacements for three buildings and $440,000 for bleacher repairs in the Dunn Center.
State legislators are considering how to spend the first $202 million installment of a $4.8 billion tobacco settlement the state is supposed to receive over the next 25 years.
