Hoppe affirms: African-American Cultural Center to remain open
October 30 , 2000
Have you heard the one about the closing of the Wilbur N. Daniel African-American Cultural Center?
It's just not true, says Dr. Sherry Hoppe.
The rumor seems to have begun when Dr. Hoppe expressed an interest in establishing similar cultural centers for other minority student groups, such as APSU's Asian and Hispanic students.
According to Hoppe, although there has been no discussion of closing the African American Cultural Center, administrators might consider locating the African-American Cultural Center as well as centers for other ethnic groups within one building. “Before any such arrangement was finalized, input would be solicited,” she says.
“Regardless of whether a shared facility evolves, the mission of the African-American Cultural Center isn't expected to change.”
