December 11, 2000
APSU faculty and staff can enjoy 12 paid holidays in 2001. The holiday schedule, presented to TBR by Interim President Dr. Sherry Hoppe, was approved in late October and includes the following:
New Years Day, Monday, Jan. 1
Martin Luther King Day, Monday, Jan. 15
Memorial Day, Monday, May 28
Independence Day, Wednesday, July 4
Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3
Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22
Day after Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 23
Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec. 24
Christmas Day, Dec. 25
Year-End Holidays, Wednesday-Friday, Dec. 26-28
Four days were designated as “administrative closing days,” which are chargeable as annual leave. By taking leave Dec. 20, 21, 31 and Jan. 2, employees can enjoy a two-week break at year's end.
A two-week break! Twelve paid holidays! That should be enough to bring on a robust “ho, ho, ho” ! If not, consider this: the average number of annual paid holidays for American workers in the private sector is 8.45 days.
