Grad praises “world-class” education, pledges scholarship funds

Saying his education at APSU propelled him to the top of his field, an Austin Peay alumnus has established a scholarship for computer science and information systems majors.

Donald Wallar, a 1997 graduate now living in San Francisco, will donate $2,500 annually for the next five years to fund scholarships for computer science and information systems majors.

“I put myself through school by working in a computer lab, tutoring APSU athletes and working at Ruby Tuesday,” says Wallar. “By setting up a scholarship to help students who, like me, work their way through school, I was showing my appreciation for the outstanding education I received.”

Wallar believes his education gave him a solid advantage in the job market. “Companies complimented my education over and over again when I showed them a portfolio of work I had completed at APSU. I was told by IBM and others that they had interviewed graduate students who didn't have as advanced an education as what I had received.”

Waller's belief in the superority of the education he received at APSU was reinforced when he begain interviewing for jobs. “By the time I was finished interviewing, I had five offers on the table out of five interviews....At that point, I realized I had received an education that was world-class.”

A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a junior, and a $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to a senior. For more information about the scholarship, call 7127.
