Drane Street to reopen for traffic
July 30, 2002
Work has begun to repave and then reopen Drane Street to through-traffic this month. The road will provide better access to the heart of campus, particularly for students who will live in the new residence halls under construction.
Crews began removal of the old surface last week. Sidewalks and curbs will be poured during the weekend, with paving of the road scheduled for today and tomorrow.
If weather allows, Drane Street will be opened to traffic by July 31, allowing vehicles to pass from College to Marion Street for the first time in several years. Speed bumps and pedestrian crosswalks will be replaced to encourage would-be speeders to adhere to the 20 miles-per-hour speed limit.
