Dr. Hoppe to discuss plight of higher ed on “Open Line”
September 10, 2001
Austin Peay State University's president, Dr. Sherry Hoppe, has been invited to be a panelist on the News Channel 5-Plus program, “Open Line” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 12.
“Open Line,” a live, one-hour program with an around-the-clock news and information format, is hosted by Scott Couch. Couch serves as moderator by taking questions and comments from viewers concerning the evening's topic.
On Sept. 12, guest panelists will discuss the future and funding of Tennessee higher education.
In addition to Hoppe, scheduled panelists are Dr. Richard Rhoda, executive director of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission; David Gregory, Tennessee Board of Regents vice chancellor for administration and facilities; and Dr. James Hefner, president of Tennessee State University.
Hoppe said, “The state's fiscal condition continues to deteriorate. Already state colleges, universities and technical schools have been asked to set aside one percent of their respective state appropriations for an impoundment.
“Since the impoundment has been imposed less than two months into the fiscal year, we must prepare for the possibility of additional impoundments this year.”
Anyone interested in the future of Tennessee higher education or anyone wanting to ask a question or voice an opinion is encouraged to tune in Sept. 12 to “Open Line,” which is aired locally on Channel 50.
