APSU’s Dr. Doris Davenport to deliver APSU commencement address on Dec. 14

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Dr. Doris Davenport, Austin Peay State University professor of nursing and recipient of the 2018 National Alumni Association Distinguished Professor Award, will deliver the keynote address during the University’s winter commencement on Friday, Dec. 14. She will speak at both ceremonies, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., in the University’s Dunn Center.

Davenport earned her Doctor of Science in nursing from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. During her career at Austin Peay, she has received the Outstanding Classroom Instructor Award twice and the Outstanding Clinical Instructor Award four times. In 1997, she received the Socrates Award for Excellence in Teaching, and in 2014, she earned the Helping Hands Award.

Davenport has published several articles in journals such as Nursing Clinics of North America and the Journal of Nurse Practitioners. She’s presented her research at conferences around the world, and she used her expertise to develop graduate courses for Austin Peay’s School of Nursing.

On Dec. 14, candidates for degrees from the College of Arts and Letters, the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and the College of Graduate Studies will participate in the 10 a.m. ceremony. Candidates for degrees from the College of Behavioral and Health Sciences, the College of Business, Eriksson College of Education and the College of Graduate Studies will participate in the 2 p.m. ceremony. Doors to the Dunn Center will open one hour prior to the start of each ceremony for guests and graduating students.
