In late 1941, something happened that not only altered the course of American history but also had an immediate and dramatic impact on Austin Peay. What was it?

Answer: December 1941 marked a mass movement of young men from the campus into the armed forces. So great was the exodus, Austin Peay "Normal" was left almost an entirely female academy. The precipitating event, of course, was the attack of the Japanese forces on Pearl Harbor.
