Though military personnel have been part of Austin Peay's student body since the establishment of Camp Campbell, the University has not always had an ROTC, or Reserve Officers' Training Corps. When was the ROTC program activated on campus?
Answer: Nov. 15, 1971. Lt. Col. Charles E. Avery Jr., the first professor of military science, and his staff began instruction in the old National Guard Armory, which had been purchased earlier by the University for use by the department of military science.
