In what year was the department of speech and theatre formed, and where did student-actors present plays?
Answer: Although speeches and dramatic presentations were always part of life at Austin Peay, the department of speech was part of the English department, and no major in speech and theatre was available until 1962. Plays were presented in the auditorium of the Stewart-Waddell building, which was razed and replaced by the Clement Fine Arts Building. When the Clement Auditorium was rendered inadequate by growth in theatre and music programs, the Margaret Fort Trahern Art and Drama Building was constructed. The year: 1974.
