The building names are familiar: McCord, Browning, Marks, Ellington, Clement, Blount, Sevier, Dunn. But how did the names originate?
Answer: All buildings listed were named for Tennessee governors: Jim Nance McCord, Gordon Browning, Albert S. Marks, Buford Ellington, Frank G. Clement, Willie Blount, John Sevier and Valentine Sevier, Winfield Dunn. Other buildings-Ziegler, Harvill, Claxton-honor former University presidents John S. Ziegler, Halbert Harvill, Philander P. Claxton. Faculty members are recognized in the naming of the George Rawlins Men's Dormitory and the Felix G. Woodward Library.
