What is the historical significance of Emerald Hill?
Answer: Emerald Hill is the former home of Gustavus Adolphus Henry. A prominent Clarksville attorney and esteemed orator, Henry was a member of the Kentucky legislature before moving to Clarksville. He ran for governor of Tennessee but was defeated by Andrew Johnson in 1853. Emerald Hill became home to the Alumni Association in 1975 after being donated to the University by the widow of Patrick Henry Cross. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites.
