African-American high school students are invited to get a glimpse of college life at Austin Peay State University through the ASTAR precollege program.
ASTAR is an acronym for “African-American scholars” who are “talented, assertive and rising.” The program — which begins Sunday, June 11 and ends Saturday, June 17 — is open to students who will be in grades 10-12 for the 2006-07 academic year and want to know more about college life at Austin Peay.
For a week at APSU, students will live in a residence hall, take some college courses, attend cultural events, become acquainted with college entrance exams, explore college options and meet faculty, community leaders and other students.
Applications are available at the African American Cultural Center on campus or on the APSU Web site at www.apsu.edu/aacc/astar.htm
. Deadline to apply is May 5.
