CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — Austin Peay State University has hired Michael Kasitz as police chief and director of Public Safety. Kasitz will begin employment Sept. 9.

Kasitz comes from Eastern Kentucky University (EKU), where he currently serves as director of emergency management as well as captain with the EKU police department, where he has served in various capacities for 23 years.

According to Mitch Robinson, vice president for finance and administration, Kasitz has notable experience in crime reporting, emergency management, FEMA training, records management and state and federal compliance that fit well with the needs of the position.

“The search committee did a phenomenal job — Mr. Kasitz is the perfect fit for APSU,” Robinson said. “His experience and leadership at Eastern Kentucky will allow him to move forward quickly with new and ever changing initiatives for our campus police department. We are excited to have him join our team.”

The police chief position was vacated by Terence Calloway in June of 2013, who left to take a position as chief of police for Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU).
