African American Cultural Center honors grads

The Wilbur N. Daniel African American Cultural Center is sponsoring two events honoring the University's December graduates.

Jazz Peasoup Night will begin at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 14, in the Center. The evening, which has been dedicated to celebrating the fall graduates, will feature entertainment by Galen, a master flutist and lecturer. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Boston, and Rutgers University, Galen has performed domestically and internationally for more than 40 years.

In addition, students will be able to express themselves that night with jazz music as a background to their poetic expressions.

The African American Graduates Recognition Ceremony will take place at 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 16, in the African American Cultural Center. Held on the eve of the University's Commencement, the ceremony will gather faculty, family and others who have supported APSU's African American graduating seniors and graduate students.

The awards ceremony is sponsored by The African American Staff, Administrators and Faculty of APSU.

For more information about either event, telephone Dr. Valerie Barnes, director of the African American Cultural Center, at (931) 221-7120.
