Adjunct Faculty, Music Appreciation
Sylvia Carver graduated from Carson-Newman College with a Bachelor of Music degree and did additional study at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. She has taught private piano students for more than 30 years and has been active in church music as an organist, pianist, handbell director, director and coordinator for children’s choirs and director of music. She has served as an adjudicator for piano guild festivals in several states and has been a member of American Guild of Organists.
Mrs. Carver has been an adjunct faculty member at Austin Peay State University since 1999, teaching Music Appreciation (on the main campus, as well as the Ft. Campbell campus) and piano. She has served as accompanist for the APSU Chamber Choir, University Choir, Governor Singers, Opera Workshop, and has accompanied voice students for the annual NATS competition. She has maintained a piano studio through the APSU Community School of the Arts since 1999, and has accompanied the Clarksville Teen Singers and Youth Chorus since their inception. Mrs. Carver has also served on the faculty for the APSU Piano Week (a summer program for area middle and high school students) since it’s beginning in 2000. Married for 32 years to Ward Carver (a chaplain at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville), they have three grown children, Sarah, Whitney, and Nathan.
