Christopher Vivio

Dr. Christopher Vivio is the adjunct professor of tuba and euphonium and conducts the G.O.T.E. (Governor’s Own Tuba and Euphonium) ensemble.  Vivio has also held the position of interim director of athletic bands at Austin Peay State University from 2009-2010.  He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Illinois State University, a Master of Music in Tuba Performance from Penn State University and a Doctorate of the Musical Arts from of the University of Memphis.  In 2007, he won the University of Memphis Concerto Competition in the Winds Division.  Dr. Vivio was the first tuba to win the competition in over 20 years.  He was the Category Winner and Grand Prize Finalist at the International Women’s Brass Conference held at Illinois State University in 2007 and was a finalist at the summer 2004 International Potomac Music Festival at George Mason University.

Vivio’s teachers include Dave Zerkel, Jeff Graves, Sharon Huff, Michael Forbes, Velvet Brown and Charles Schulz.   Vivio also holds a minor in instrumental wind conducing from the University of Memphis studying under Kraig Williams.
