Originally from Milan, Tennessee, Andrea Brown
has served as Austin Peay State University’s director of
athletic bands and assistant director of bands since 2003. As a
member of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s AA
Brass Quintet, Brown won first place at the prestigious
International Brass Quintet Competition in 2001. She also was
named the Outstanding Music Major while earning her bachelor’s
degree from APSU.
Before coming to the University, Brown
taught public school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Dallas, Texas. An
avid drum corps fan, she has been an instructor with Carolina
Crown of Fort Mill, South Carolina, and a member of the brass staff of the
Phantom Regiment from Rockford, Illinois since 2003. Brown is an
active clinician and adjudicator of both marching and concert
ensembles throughout the southeast. She has performed with the
North Carolina, Winston-Salem, and Long Bay Symphony orchestras,
as well as the Brevard Music Center Orchestra.
Brown’s professional memberships include
College Band Directors National Association, TMEA, MENC, Phi
Kappa Phi, Pi Kappa Lambda, and she was awarded the Sigma Alpha
Iota Women’s Music Fraternity Rose of Honor in 2000. On warm,
sunny days you will most likely find her riding her motorcycle
or hiking with her Chesapeake Bay retriever mix, Solomon.
