JOANN SIMMONS MCINTOSH
Adjunct Music Theory Instructor

JoAnn Simmons McIntosh graduated summa cum laude in Flute Performance with a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana and a Master of Music degree from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee.  As a student at Illinois, McIntosh performed as principal flutist with the Symphonic Band, the Symphonic Orchestra, and the Opera Orchestra; at Austin Peay, she was a winner in the annual Concerto Competition and performed extensively on university student and faculty programs.  She has been flutist with both the Paducah (Kentucky) and the Jackson (Tennessee) Symphony Orchestras, and has been active with a variety of community ensembles.

As an adjunct member of the Austin Peay music faculty, McIntosh currently teaches Music Theory, Aural Skills, and Music Appreciation.  In addition, she was instrumental in the creation of the university’s Community School of the Arts: a community-outreach program which offers the use of university resources to younger students.  McIntosh directs the High School Flute Choir for the CSA, as well as teaching private flute lessons.  She is a member of the National Flute Association and the Middle Tennessee Flute Society, and is active in composing and arranging music for flute choir and other chamber groups.
