JOANN SIMMONS
MCINTOSH
Adjunct Music Theory Instructor
JoAnn Simmons McIntosh graduated summa cum
laude in Flute Performance with a Bachelor of Music degree from
the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana and a Master of
Music degree from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville,
Tennessee. As a student at Illinois, McIntosh performed as
principal flutist with the Symphonic Band, the Symphonic
Orchestra, and the Opera Orchestra; at Austin Peay, she was a
winner in the annual Concerto Competition and performed
extensively on university student and faculty programs. She has
been flutist with both the Paducah (Kentucky) and the Jackson
(Tennessee) Symphony Orchestras, and has been active with a
variety of community ensembles.
As an adjunct member of the Austin Peay
music faculty, McIntosh currently teaches Music Theory, Aural
Skills, and Music Appreciation. In addition, she was
instrumental in the creation of the university’s Community
School of the Arts: a community-outreach program which offers
the use of university resources to younger students. McIntosh
directs the High School Flute Choir for the CSA, as well as
teaching private flute lessons. She is a member of the National
Flute Association and the Middle Tennessee Flute Society, and is
active in composing and arranging music for flute choir and
other chamber groups.
