Dr. Mary Alice Domenica
Dr. Mary Alice Domenica joined Austin Peay State University in 2010 as the Staff Accompanist and Coordinator of Collaborative Piano. She accompanies student and faculty recitals, coordinates the university's accompanists, accompanies several of the university's choral ensembles, and teaches collaborative piano classes.
Mary Alice attended Covenant College in Chattanooga, Tennessee and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance. She received a Master of Music degree from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. She was the recipient of the M.P.F.’s Schnurmacher Fellowship, the Federation of Musicians M.P.T.F. Scholarship, and a winner of the Belmont University Concerto Competition. She was also a collegiate soccer player and Academic All-American. She completed her Doctor of Musical Arts in collaborative piano with a cognate in music theory at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music. She served as the Teaching Assistant to Dr. Paul Posnak, Director of Collaborative Piano at the University of Miami. She has studied with Dr. Jeanell Brown, Dr. Robert Marler, Dr. Paul Posnak, and Dr. Rosalina Sackstein
Her broad-based musical background includes extensive work in instrumental chamber ensembles, musical theatre and opera accompanying and directing, frequent professional employment as a choral and instrumental accompanist, judging youth piano festivals, and teaching solo and collaborative piano privately and on the collegiate level. Mary Alice’s piano instruction focuses on the piano techniques of Claudio Arrau and Rosalina Sackstein, emphasizing relaxation to achieve rich sounds on the piano. She is also an avid supporter and performer of the works of women composers.
