Children's Concert

The Children’s Concert Series is an annual event for local students, sponsored by the Austin Peay State University Department of Music in cooperation with the Gateway Chamber Orchestra. The music selected for these events is chosen for its student-friendly programmability, and for its importance in the musical development of elementary students.

The Gateway Chamber Orchestra is a professional orchestra that specializes in the programming of masterworks of the past and present, and is dedicated to education and outreach in the Clarksville area and beyond. For more information about the Gateway Chamber Orchestra, visit http://gatewaychamberorchestra.com/

Music teachers are asked to select one grade level to attend the performance. In lieu of a specific grade level, campuses may elect to send a Beta Club, School Choir, Student Council, or other student organization. Clarksville performances are held in the Mabry Concert Hall of the Music/Mass Communications Building on the campus of Austin Peay State University. There is no admission charge, but schools must reserve their seats in advance by responding promptly to the invitation. Seating is limited and is reserved on a first-come-first-served basis. Once we receive your affirmative response, you will receive a confirmation letter, itinerary, campus map and bus parking information. To Reserve your Seats, go to www.apsu.edu/music/childrens-concert-registration and complete the online form.

Educational materials are included on this website and as downloadable PDF files. Lessons are written to introduce the musical selections students will hear at the performance, and incorporate terminology and concepts from the music into daily lessons, if you so choose. There is no requirement of any kind for teachers to implement the lessons or activities. The instructional packet and related materials are simply included to enhance the students’ experience as they prepare to attend the performance.
