Dr. LISA READ-VANARSDEL

Lisa
Read Vanarsdel received the Bachelor of Music and the Master of Music degrees
in Flute Performance from the University of Illinois and the Doctor of Musical
Arts degree in Flute Performance from Louisiana State University. She has
had additional flute study in Manchester, England at the Royal College of
Music. Dr. Vanarsdel is currently Professor of Flute at Austin Peay State
University where she directs the APSU Flute Choir and Woodwind Quintet. She
also teaches Woodwind Group Instruction, Music Appreciation, and serves as
faculty advisor for Sigma Alpha Iota International Fraternity for Women.
For two summers, Dr. Vanarsdel served on the faculty of the Tennessee Governor's
School for the Arts and was awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award.
Recently, Dr. Vanarsdel performed with fellow faculty member Dr. Patricia
Halbeck on NPR affiliate WPLN radio in Nashville, Tennessee on the program
Live in Studio C. She performs regularly at regional and national
conferences including a lecture/recital about flutist Robert Cavally at the
Twenty-Third Annual National Flute Association Convention in Orlando, Florida.
She has also been a winner in the Orchestral Competition, the Convention
Performers Competition, and a semi-finalist in the Young Artist Competition,
which are all sponsored by the National Flute Association. As winner of the
Texas Flute Society Concerto Competition, Dr. Vanarsdel appeared as guest
soloist with the Dallas Chamber Orchestra. Currently, Dr. Vanarsdel serves
as Competition Coordinator and Vice President-President Elect of the Mid-South
Flute Society.
