Dr. THOMAS KING

Dr. Thomas
King, Professor of Voice at Austin Peay State University, received a Bachelor
of Music Education degree in Choral Music from the University of Kansas,
a Master of Music degree in Vocal Pedagogy, magna cum laude, from Indiana
University, a Performer's Certificate from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria,
a Master of Arts degree in German from the University of Mississippi, and
a doctorate in Vocal Pedagogy also from the University of Mississippi.
He was a professional opera singer in the German theater system for five
years, singing over 400 performances during that time. In the States, Dr.
King has performed with the Memphis Opera, the Germantown Symphony, the
Lancaster, Pennsylvania Symphony, the Atlanta Chamber Opera, the Municipal
Opera of St. Louis, the Kennesaw Opera, the Cobb Community Symphony, and
with the Rapides Symphony and the Lake Charles Symphony, both in Louisiana.
Previously, he taught high school choral music for 11 years in Florida, Georgia,
and Mississippi.
He is an active recitalist and has performed all over the southeastern and
midwestern states with his wife, Dr. Vicki King, as accompanist. He has been
a member of the faculty and staff of the American Institute of Musical Studies
in Graz, Austria since 1983, teaching auditions training for singers and
offering stage fright remedies.
He is the Governor of Province 15 of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the mens' music
fraternity. He is also a member of the National Association of Teachers of
Singing, and was inducted into Delta Phi Alpha, the German honor society
in 1987. He is a member of the College Music Society, Southern Chapter, and
has been Board member for Performance, Secretary/Treasurer, and is now President
of the 750 member organization.
