Current Research

Dr. Stephen Truhon, Associate Professor of Psychology, spent the summer of 2012 with the U.S. Navy researching combat and operational stress control.  For more information about his research, please contact Stephen Truhon at 

Dr. Tucker Brown, Associate Professor of Sociology, and undergraduate Honors student, Erin Orstrom will implement the BASS study at APSU.  The study analyzes cadet and civilian attitudes toward contemporary social and military issues.  Dr. Brown is collaborating on this project with social scientists from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.  For information regarding this study, please contact Tucker Brown at

Dr. Stephen A. Dr. Jonniann Butterfield, Dr. Roxanne Gerbrandt, and undergraduate student Brittany Campagna are in the preliminary stages of a research project examining how the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" affects disclosure of sexual orientation among active duty military personnel. There research will explore the consequences of disclosure since the repeal. For more information   

Previous Research and Scholarly Activity

Dr. Stephen Truhon has previously served as a Summer Research Associate at Armstrong Laboratory, Brooks AFB, TX, and as a Summer Research Fellow at the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute, Patrick AFB, FL.   Additionally, he is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Military Psychology.
