CLASS NOTES

'50s

You won't find JOE JACKSON ('51) hanging around the Alabama courtrooms anymore. He is relaxing and enjoying leisure time with his wife Amy. He recently retired from his position as administrator of Lange, Simpson, Robinson & Somerville, a law firm in Birmingham.

Recently appointed as an APSU Foundation trustee, accounting graduate ROBERT E. THOMPSON ('52) is playing an important role in the life of our University.

A current member of the Tenn. General Assembly and former APSU professor Rep. BOB PATTON ('57,'59) recently had a book published that he edited. It is titled "The American Family: Life and Health." He also is a member of APSU National Alumni Association's board of directors.

'60s

Also recently named as an APSU Foundation trustee, Walton N. Smith Jr. ('63) is busy giving his time to both the University and the Clarksville community. He is the chair of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Economic Development Council.

Emma Mai Cornell Palmore ('62,'66) kept her nose to the books and devoted years of service, as both a teacher and librarian, to the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System from which she recently retired. She has two children, Patsi Walker and Buddy Palmore.

As the new regional director of Ducks Unlimited Inc. chapters in eastern Tennessee and Kentucky, Larry Richardson ('66,'70) is not a "feather-weight" when it comes to conservation. Ducks Unlimited is the world's largest non-profit wetland conservation organization. Larry and his wife Roberta ('69) live in Knoxville.

Patricia Hill Remy ('67) and her husband James now call the great state of Washington home. Patricia is the project coordinator of the Employment Security Department in Olympia, and her husband is an associate broker at Virgil Adams Real Estate. They have three children, Dave, Dan and Kelly.

If you are looking for APSU alumnus Doug Pittenger ('69), just let your fingers do the walking. Employed by The Berry Co. in Hoover, Ala., he is the Alabama division manager for The Real Yellow Pages. He and his wife, Christi, employed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, have three daughters, Katie, Kristen and Allie.

'70s

It seems as if Alabama is the place to be! Even James E. Bramlett Jr. ('72) and his family have moved south to Gardendale where he is a specialist for BellSouth Telecommunications. His wife, Sharron, is a para-professional for the Jefferson County Board of Education, and they have four sons Jerome, Jonathan, Jeffrey and Jermaine.

We tracked down Richard Luna ('72) in Columbia, where he is employed by Tennessee Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. as the senior claims representative.

Attorney Julia F. Smith ('72) recently was appointed to the APSU Foundation board of trustees.

Ranking in the same category as Art Linkletter, recently Nashvillian Joe Calloway ('74) was presented with the highest honor bestowed on a speaker by the National Speakers Association, the Council of Peers Award for Excellence. The author of "Choose Success" and founder of the Joe Calloway/Business Motivation Resources, Joe designs and delivers employee training programs for business and government clients.

Now director of medical/surgical nursing at Clarksville Memorial Hospital, Vickie Duncan ('74) is making sure all of her patients are in good hands.

William "Bill" Peacher ('74) has been named secretary/treasurer of Byers and Harvey Inc. real estate.

Here is a toast to Jack Jackson ('75), a man who is making things happen for himself, his family, the community and hundreds of other people. The motivational speaker, owner of Jack Jackson Motivation in Dayton, Ohio, is working on his doctorate at the University of Cincinnati and has been the featured speaker at several recent celebrations and banquets. With two children in college, he also is employed by the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce.

Larry W. Carroll ('76) of Charlotte, N.C., recently was appointed to the APSU Foundation board of trustees.

Cathy Arthur Kottyan ('77) and Matthew Kottyan ('79) are keeping busy these days! While Matthew works in Charlotte, N.C., for Eutectic Corp., Cathy teaches first grade in Rock Hill, S.C., and is pursuing her master's degree in counseling from Winthrop University. The Kottyans have two children, Tim and Katie.

Michael Fowler ('77) is the regional sales manager for Rotor Tool Co. He lives in Springfield with his wife, Cathy, and his two sons, Robert and Stephen.

Here's a 15-gun salute for retired U.S. Army officer Michael Sullivan ('70,'77), who lives in Fayetteville, N.C., with his wife, Phyliss Westerman Sullivan ( 69). He is employed as the director of the health care administration program at Methodist College, and the Sullivans have two children.

Kenneth Clouse ('76,'78) knows the importance of a good education, and he and wife Maureen are making sure the students in Dallas, Ga., get the best! Both are employed by the Paulding County Schools. Kenneth is the principal at East Paulding High School, and Maureen coordinates the county's high school curriculum and instruction. They have three children, Rob, Mendy and Jeremy, and the Clouses live in Kennesaw, Ga.

'80s

Larry Flood ('80) and his wife, Sydney, have been busy since he received his master's degree in industrial safety from the University of Tennessee. Making their home in Pocatello, Idaho, he is employed as the general manager of the Aspen/Pasley/P&H Corp., and she is an enviromental specialist for the Lockheed Corp.

Keith D. Kelley ('81) is all about service. Recently named to the board of trustees for the APSU Foundation, he is active with Clarksville's Rotary Club, Habitat for Humanity, Boy Scouts and United Way.

Still defending the Stars and Stripes, Harry Dies Jr. ('82) is a major in the U.S. Army and is married to Jill Dies.

Catching up with his alma mater from Rochester, N.Y., via the Internet, Dennis Brantly ( 83), let us know he is working as a computer specialist for the Xerox Corp. R&D. Just call Debra Arkley ('84) when the "chips" are down. Developing computer systems for the IRS, she and husband, Steve, and their two daughters, Jennifer and Jessica live in East Hampstead, N.H. Her husband is a senior engineer for GTE.

Kathie Scobee Fulgham ('84) recently picked up a new last name. Just married to Steve Fulgham, their home is Houston, where she is the district public relations director for North Harris Montgomery Community College District. She has a son, Justin, and two daughters, Emily June and Courtney.

Working for the Tennessee Dental Association in Nashville, Christina Morris Palmer ('84) is a comptroller. Her husband Jon works for the state Department of Economic and Community Development, and they live in Nashville.

Hooking up with the APSU Career Connection, Andrea Zamora ('84) is sharing her expertise and helping current APSU graduates find jobs. She is the marketing director at the Mall of Abilene in Texas.

You'll find APSU alumnus Teddy Denny ('86) either on the streets or behind the Bethel Baptist Church pulpit on Sunday morning. Currently a Clarksville police officer, he recently earned his doctorate from Covington Theological Seminary. He has three women in his life, his wife, Patricia, and daughters, Dana and Kim.

Susan Wright Cole ('86) and Grant Cole ('87) are all smiles with the wealth of good things coming in their direction. Making a difference in Alexandria, Va., both recently were appointed to serve as members of the Alexandria Republican City Committee. Also, Grant was appointed to serve on the Alexandria-Gyumri Sister City Committee.

Sonja McCormick ('87) earned her master's degree in sociology from Western Kentucky University and is the assistant director of Admissions and Records at Columbia State Community College, Columbia.

Hats off to recent graduate Amy Louise Busse ('88) who recently earned her master's of divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary in Virginia. Union is one of 11 theological institutions of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

Successfully juggling the roles of wife, mother and business woman, Karen Williams-Johnson ('88) is a woman of the '90s. Her husband, Raymond, and their two young children, Colleen and Michael, keep her busy, plus she is the co-owner and CFO of Eclipse Medical Office Services in Brentwood. Keep up the good work, Karen!

Kim Borders ('89) is making the switch from telephone to television. A former employee of Cellular Connection, she was hired as the sales manager of TV43 in Hopkinsville, Ky.

Lisa Hudson Davis ('88,'89) has been named marketing and communications coordinator for the Clarksville-Montgomery County Economic Development Council.

If you are ever in Sugar Grove, Ill., look up Tina Harrison Reedy Klaput ('89) and her husband, Michael. She is an enviromental analyst at Argone National Laboratory.

Monte A. Gates ('89) is on his way to Sweden, but not to sightsee. After earning his doctorate at the University of Tennessee, Memphis, he is completing his postdoctoral training at the University of Lund. Hopefully, he will have some time off to tour the country.

Marla Rye ('89) is moving up the career ladder at the North Tennessee Private Industry Council Inc. An employee for the past five years, she recently was promoted to assistant executive director.

'90s

Jaime R. Taylor ('90) recently earned his doctorate in engineering from the University of Tennessee Space Institute and has joined the APSU faculty this fall in the department of physics.

Melissa Lyn Doss ('91) received her master's degree in elementary education from Mississippi College this spring.

It's as easy as A-B-C and 1-2-3 for Jeana Matthews Kinsman ('91) now that she earned her master's degree in early childhood education from Vanderbilt University. She is a primary teacher in Hiseville, Ky., and her husband David Kinsman ( 89) sells products for Laboratory Corp. of America in Louisville. They live in Bowling Green, Ky.

Donna G. Johnson ('92,'94) is teaching future APSU students at Northeast High School, Clarksville.

Sherri Leonard ('93) is cruising in her career as assistant manager at Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Clarksville.

The Buckeye State is now the home of recent graduate Tricia Goodowens Benua ('94) who just completed her master's degree in finance and international business at Ohio State University. She is the financial planner/adviser for Harper Associates Inc. in Columbus, and her husband, Philip, is a physicist at Lakeshore Cryotronics Inc. They live in Westerville, Ohio.

With a master's degree in business administration from Washington University, St. Louis, Bruce G. Ray ('93) is ready to take on the world.

Martha Rogers ('94) is her name and numbers are her game. Recently receiving her master's degree in professional accountancy from Western Kentucky University, Martha is working for the Tennessee Division of Audit as a legislative auditor in Nashville. She lives in Hendersonville.

Working as a cytology prep technician in Nashville, Kimwa Walker ('94) is employed at Reference Pathology Laboratory Inc. She lives in Gallatin.

June wedding bells rang for alums Jay Albertia ('89,'91) and Gena King Albertia ('94). After a honeymoon in the Cancun sun, Jay returned to his job as director of the Harriett Cohn Center, and Gena returned to APSU to work on her master's degree in psychology.

Congratulations are in order for newlyweds Michelle Peters ('95) and John Shadix ('94). After a July honeymoon in Gatlinburg, Michelle joined David B. Smith Engineering Inc. as director of marketing and public relations.
