Writing Lab Service

The Writing Lab, located on the first floor of the Morgan University Center, Room 114, provides writing assistance to all APSU students (Clarksville campus, Ft. Campbell campus, and Web-based). The Writing Lab is staffed by APSU students, who assess papers from all departments and provide tutoring on the rules and techniques needed to improve writing skills. The Writing Lab staff does not proofread, edit, or type papers.

The intent of this service is to assist students in developing the skills necessary to communicate effectively. Students may utilize the Writing Lab either by making an appointment for a personal tutoring session or by submitting papers for review on-line. The Writing Lab’s services are provided at no additional cost to APSU students.

Appointments

Students may request personal tutoring sessions. Each session normally lasts 30 minutes. During these sessions, the tutor will focus on one or two topics, based on the needs of the student. In addition to assessing papers, tutors may provide assistance in the following areas:

  • Research Techniques
  • Thesis Selection and Development
  • Avoiding Plagiarism
  • Documentation using
    • MLA
    • APA
    • Chicago

To make an appointment for a personal tutoring session, students may either sign up with the lab attendant in UC 114 or call 221-6550. Appointments may be requested up to two weeks in advance of the scheduled session. Students who miss three appointments will not be able to schedule any additional appointments during the current semester; however, they may still receive assistance through Web-based submission or on a walk-in basis.

Walk-Ins

Students may request personal tutoring sessions on a walk-in basis, subject to tutor availability. Students requesting walk-in assistance are assisted in the order of arrival.

Web-based Submissions

Students may submit papers for assessment and comment on-line. Our tutors will assess papers submitted and comment on areas that need improvement. Our tutors will not proofread or edit any papers. Normally, papers are returned with comment within two business days. All papers must be submitted as Word documents. Papers will only be returned to a valid APSU email address. Students who need additional help should request an appointment for a personal tutoring session.

To submit your paper to the writing lab please include the following information with your paper:

  • Your full name
  • Your APSU email address
  • The name of the class
  • The name of the instructor
  • The assignment instructions
  • Any areas you want the tutor to focus on
  • Whether you wish for the instructor to be informed of this assistance

** Our tutors will not respond to submissions which do not contain the required information.

In addition to the above requirements, you are required to submit your paper as an e-mail attachment and agree to the following policy:
