Tutoring
Scholarships
|
The Academic Support Center actively seeks students to serve
as peer tutors each semester. Selected students will receive
an academic scholarship of $1000 per semester.
Eligibility: Students who apply to serve as a peer tutor must:
- Be a full time student at Austin Peay State
University during the scholarship period.
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 .
- Have completed the course in which they wish to tutor or a course for which
the course is a prerequisite with a grade of “B” or better.
- Be recommended by a faculty member from each department
tutored. (example: if a students desires to tutor
mathematics and biology course, a faculty member from both
the mathematics and biology departments will be asked to
recommend the student.)
- Possess interpersonal skills required to interact effectively with students
who are seeking academic assistance.
- Have some degree of flexibility in schedule in order to meet
tutoring requests.
Application Process:
- Download the Tutoring
Scholarship Application (requires Adobe Reader) or stop by the
Academic Support Center in MUC 114 to pick up the application.
- Return the completed application to the Instructional Specialist in the Academic Support Center,
MUC 114, not later than the following deadlines:
- For fall scholarships, applications must
be in by April 15th.
- For spring scholarships, applications must be in by November 1st.
- Preference is given to students who are able to tutor
subjects in which the D, F or W rate exceeds 30 percent.
Why Be a Peer Tutor?
- Peer tutors provide a valuable service to other students.
- The Academic Support Center provides a comfortable place to
tutor and has all the required texts on hand.
- Peer tutors gain a better understanding of the material as
they explain it to other students.
