Documentary Grant

 

The Documentary Grant will not be offered again until the year 2013. 

 

 

 

APSU is pleased to announce a once-in-a-lifetime educational grant opportunity for an APSU student to travel with Study-Abroad Germany and France Program and create a 22- to 25-minute video documentary of the experience. This project is a collaborative effort between the APSU Department of Communication, the APSU Department of History and Philosophy and the Office of International Education. The grant recipient will complete nine credit-hours of a combination of history and communication coursework while completing the video documentary project. A group of faculty and staff from the sponsoring departments will serve as advisers to the project. The documentary project will provide an in-depth look at the growth and interaction of students and faculty as they explore the Holocaust and the history and culture of Europe.   

About the Study-Abroad Trip:  The Study-Abroad Germany and France Program offers an opportunity to tour Germany, France and Austria, taking part in the in-depth exploration of European history and the Holocaust. You will visit many famous sites and museums in locations, including Paris, Strasbourg, Natzweiler (Concentration Camp), Dachau (Concentration Camp), Munich, Salzburg, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Nurnberg, Rothenberg and Heidelberg. Students will examine European culture and the Holocaust.

Eligibility requirements:  Applicant must have experience in film production; <!--[if !supportLists]-->  <!--[endif]-->applicants must have successfully completed at least one semester of full-time studies at APSU, have a record of enrollment and a 2.25 G.P.A. on file; no history of student code of conduct violations; applicant must return to APSU for at least one semester following his/her study-abroad experience; applicant must be willing to complete the following course requirements: COMM 449, COMM 449, HIST 4910, COMM 480; applicant should demonstrate an interest in completing the project to strengthen his or her abilities in broadcast media and increase awareness of international relations.

Benefits: round-trip airfare, accommodations as specified in the Study-Abroad Germany and France Program information, railway tickets, health insurance, site admission and program fees. *The Study-Abroad Documentary Grant does not cover APSU tuition and fees, books and personal expenses. Applicants should budget funds for personal expenses based upon personal spending habits. The Study-Abroad Documentary Grant may not be combined with the Global Learning Travel Grant, Global Learning Merit Scholarship or Study-Abroad Ambassador Scholarship. Applicants are encouraged to apply for other study-abroad scholarships listed on our Web site.

Application Deadline and Selection Process: Application must be received by Oct. 29, 2010. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered for awards. Qualified applicants will be asked to interview during the month of November. Selected applicant will be notified and required to register for selected coursework and follow the production timeline.

December 2010 - Recipient announced. 

January to May 2011 - Preproduction COMM 499 (3)

May 2011 – History Abroad HIST 4910 & Filming COMM 499 (6)                    

June to August 2011 – Independent Study COMM 480 (3)    

Aug. 30, 2011 - First draft due with a finalized 30 second highlight clip.

Sept. 15, 2011 - Second draft due.

Oct. 30, 2011 – Final product due.

November 2011 - Screenings of the documentary on campus.
