Summer · Three or Five Weeks

Program Overview:

You will be immersed in the French language while learning from native French-speaking instructors and living with a French-speaking family in the heart of the beautiful Saguenay region of Quebec. Offered by the École de langue française et de culture québécoise at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. You must have basic knowledge of French or permission from the APSU instructor who manages this program.

Course Options:

Five-week program: Up to 6 credit-hours; Three-week program: 3 credit-hours.

Registration:

You will register for APSU's FREN 3040: Study Abroad in Quebec.

General Itinerary:

In addition to taking French language courses, you will visit a historic village and a zoo in the Lac St. Jean region of Quebec and historic Tadoussac. The program also includes a whale-watching excursion on the St. Laurence River. An optional pre-program weekend in Quebec City includes museums, live music and shopping. The itinerary is tentative and subject to change.

Lodging and Meals:

Lodging with a French-speaking family and most meals are included. Your host family will provide breakfast and most dinners. Lunch and the remaining dinners are provided in the university cafeteria. You must provide you own meals during the optional weekend excursion to Quebec City.

Cost:

Level 2* for three weeks, Level 3*for five weeks include tuition in Quebec, room and board, excursions, health insurance and meals except for those during weekend excursion to Quebec City.

*Price is based upon the estimated cost of the program and grouped into levels. Level 1 - $2k-3k; Level 2 - $3k-4k; Level 3 - $4k-5k; Level 4 - $5k-6k; and Level 5 - $6k-7k. Prices are subject to change due to increase in airfare, fluctuation of currency exchange and changes in tuition and fee rates. Estimated cost may not include airfare, APSU tuition, or health coverage unless specified. You should also budget funds for personal expenses based upon your spending habits.

Financial Aid:

Your current scholarships and financial aid may apply toward the cost of the program. Call the Office of Student Financial Aid at (931) 221-7907 to schedule an appointment with financial aid counselor, Cathy Naef. Payment Schedule and Deadlines:

  1. Submit your application and deposit no later than April 1. The deposit will not be refunded after April 1. Make checks payable to APSU.
  2. Register for FREN 3040 during the registration for APSU summer classes.
