 Study-Abroad Program · Summer · Four Weeks

Program Overview:

Through this program, you will take part in either an intensive Spanish language program or a history course about Latin American studies in Rosario, Argentina. In your leisure time, you will experience Argentinean culture through day trips, cultural events, a four-day trip to see the Jesuit Ruins and Iguazú waterfalls in Brazil and Argentina. Also, you will spend a weekend in Buenos Aires and you will get to experience a Tango dinner show. Basic knowledge of Spanish is not required. An optional trip to Patagonia with your Study Abroad Coordinator will be offered to you in order to explore the magnificent glaciers of the state of Santa Cruz, near the town of El Calafate.

 6-8 Credit Hours

Courses:

If you plan to take a Spanish course, you must sign up for Spanish 3040C; however, if you plan on taking the Modern Latin America course, HIST 3470, which is offered in English, you must register for that class specifically. Beginners, intermediate and advanced Spanish courses are offered in this program, as well as Spanish/Latin American Literature and History courses. In addition, a history course which will be taught by Dr. Hammond will satisfy the History Major-Minor requirements. All courses may be applied to the Latin American Studies minor.

General Itinerary:

We will travel from Buenos Aires to Rosario. Then, from Rosario we will visit the following states: Misiones, Paraná (Brazil) and Buenos Aires. If you wish to travel with a group of students, you will fly out of – and into – Nashville International Airport (BNA). The itinerary is tentative and subject to change.

Lodging and Meals:

You will reside in a comfortable, private apartment with some of your classmates during your stay in Rosario and in commercial hotels during your stay(s) outside Rosario. You will have your own kitchen and utensils in case you want to prepare your meals. Also, breakfast and dinner are included in Rosario and in the hotels where you will stay.

Cost:

Level 3: (between $4k-$5k)

This covers APSU tuition, airfare, health insurance for the duration of the trip, meals and activities, triple occupancy rooms while in Rosario, and triple occupancy in hotels, trips to Salta and Brazil.

Payment Schedule and Deadlines:

  • Submit your application and a $100 deposit by December 7.
  • Pay your first payment of $1350 by February 1.
  • Pay your remaining balance by April 1.

Your current scholarships and financial aid may apply toward the cost of the program.
