Carved clay vessels, wall hangings part of senior show
11/18/2008

Austin Peay State University art senior Jamie Weatherspoon will display a number of ceramic pieces as part of an exhibit, titled “Scratching the Surface.”

Carved clay vessels and wall hangings created by Weatherspoon will be on display from Nov. 24-26 in the Trahern Gallery. An opening reception will be at 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 24 in Trahern, Room 106.

Weatherspoon’s show is part of a senior art course that is the capstone of the art degree program at APSU.

The exhibit will consist of many clay vessels and wall hangings, all intricately carved with lines to create patterns and textures. The various themes carved on her pieces derived from Weatherspoon’s interest in both manmade and natural lines and patterns in everyday life.

“The lines, patterns and textures that I add to the surface of my vessels are a peaceful place for me to exist,” she said.

For more information about Weatherspoon’s art exhibit, contact APSU professor of art Gregg Schlanger by telephone at (931) 221-7789 or by e-mail at schlangerg@apsu.edu. -- Melony Shemberger
